Aspen Norton Memorial and Music

This page is a memorial page for our daughter Aspen Norton, August 5, 1997 - May 10, 2024.

"But behold, the bands of death shall be broken, and the Son reigneth, and hath power over the dead; therefore, he bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead." -Mosiah 15:20

Gifted with music and love for all, her life was also filled with pain and suffering. With her passing, she is now free of pain and continues to perform her work from the world of spirits.

To get a glimpse of her life, listen to the life sketch from her Celebration of Life below.

Music

These first two songs are from Aspen's funeral service. I will add more music soon. Subscribe below to be notified of site updates. You can click the YouTube list for a playlist, or explore this site's Music blog posts for songs with lyrics.

"What If I Told You" is a piece Aspen was creating and filmed herself singing one day to share with someone. I discovered it on her computer days before the services and knew I wanted to play it for the service.

Lyrics to "What If I Told You?" by Aspen Norton

What if I told you, your hope was on a boat and it’s sailing straight toward us now?

What if I showed you, your heart was next to mine and it’s never really far apart?

So near, so dear, it’s never really far apart, so near, so dear,

What if I told you, the whale sings a song and the brave ones know to sing along?

What if I showed you, the algae grows the best when it’s near a golden treasure chest?

For you, for me, when it’s near a golden treasure chest, for you, for me,

I saw the dolphin fly, I heard the whale sing, I watched the fish swim along the shore.

I saw the goldfish grin, I watched the swordfish swim, I heard a mother sing lullabies.

(Chorus)

Where children laugh and people smile and miracles are happening all the while.

Where children laugh and people smile and miracles are happening all the while.

Today, today, today.

Valtameri is a song Aspen was composing at age 12-13. She had help from a wonderful music teacher who I'm sure had a hand in the creation of the song, but when Aspen's pain got debilitating, the song was never fully completed with all the instruments and laying they were planning. Still, it's a beautiful piece.
